Laura Kemshall
The landscape that surrounds my home is a constant source of inspiration. Working into sketchbooks, drawing and painting helps resolve the ideas that eventually become stitched textiles. Often taking the form of quilts, I paint and draw directly onto fabric which is then densely stitched by either hand, machine or often a combination of the two. Both the development of ideas and the final quilt are equally important to me and I am working to bring these elements closer together. I like the idea of a sketchbook becoming more like a quilt and a quilt becoming more like a book! Recent work has focussed on extending the possibilites that the traditional format of the quilt present. 3-Dimensional
elements within wall quilts and free standing quilts are something that I will continue to work on. Aside from pursuing my own work I also teach City & Guilds creative courses at the DesignMatters online centre - www.lindakemshall.com . I'm also one third of thr3fold - www.thr3foldjournal.com
